Thanksgiving Day and I’m napping on the couch, waking up just at the end of It’s A Wonderful Life, which I think is a Wonderful Movie. I lay there and think happy thoughts about how bleak the thing is — its worldview, like Matthew Arnold’s, hath neither certitude nor peace, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a holiday movie, thanks. Life is hard and bad things and bad people will afflict you, but if you do your best to be kind the universe will, sometimes, give it back when you need it most. I got your miracle on 34th Street right here, pal.
So what do you think was on next? The programming geniuses at my local NBC affiliate chose to follow up one of the most forgiving and decent films ever made with the hater stylings of “Dr.” Laura. I am not kidding. Anyone with me for a boycott?
