Still completing the NYC move (ask me about painting the apartment!), I wanted you to see this editorial from Sports Illustrated’s Rick Reilly, in which he’s taken the frankly underpracticed step of firing some of his more butthole-esque readers. More power to him, I say. The guys who run the business side of magazines have a target reader — usually described to potential advertisers by gender, age, income, hobbies, and so on down to his/her sock size — and non-target readers are at best ignored and at worst subtly encouraged not to pick up the magazine at all. Is it so much to ask that the folks who write the stuff in the magazines get to specify that they’d rather not have it read by assholes?
